City's final home game of the season took place last night against Salthill Devon .
It was a game where City had most of the ball, but a solid Salthill side probably deserved the result on merit.
City came close to scoring after 7 mins when Graham Cummins had a shot blocked off the line, Davin O'Neil missed but only just. George O Callaghan was full of brilliance; playing just in front of the back four, his creative spark meant the home team were dominating in midfield and he continuously sought out a killer pass to play his teammates in.
But for all City's dominance, they were dealt a cruel blow when the City defence failed to clear a Cian McBrien’ cross from the right wing and Robbie Porter pounced from 12 yards out to slice home the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
After this and as the game headed into the 2nd half, City were still on top in the possession stakes but could'nt find a route to goal . However, City managed to get an equaliser on 66 mins after he carefully slotted the ball low into the net from ten yards out.
It looked more likely that City would score a winner, but with 8 mins left Daryl Horgan flew into the box and he was dragged down by Gavin Kavanagh just inside the area referee John Grimes immediately pointed to the spot and Cian McBrien stepped up to score the spotkick and secure 3 pts for the Galway men.
City next play Wexford Youths in Ferrycarraig Park next Saturday (8pm) , with everyone now starting to plan for next year .
