Limerick Away, 17th September

Jackman Park was the destination for the Rebel Army yesterday as Cork City faced Limerick .
Never come late to a City match at the moment as that seems to be when City play all their best football at the moment. Just like the week privious,City  did enough to earn 3 pts within the first 15 mins .  Last Night we were 3 up after 12 mins,  the first came when Graham Cummins got on the end of a great Shane Barrett cross to put us ahead. The 2nd came on 11 mins when Davin O'Neil strolled in from the wing through the Limerick backline before slotting past Dave Ryan in the Limerick goal and the 3rd came on 13 mins when O'Neil   volleyed home into the bottom corner .
After being shocked by how the game had Started, Limerick began to try and find a way back into the game but not really threatening City in the process .  Limerick's John Tierney was lively as always and his paced caused the City defence trouble but with no support up front he could not turn provider for a  Limerick goal .
City soaked up any Limerick attack and passed around comfortably to see out the remainder of the half.     In the 2nd half,      
Stephen O’Flynn came close for the home side, his over ambitious volley from all of forty yards nearly caught out McNulty, but the Cork stopper prevented the goal.  Just as City thought they had seen the game out with a clean sheet, Limerick were awarded a free kick which Bobby Ryan put away into the bottom corner.

City after that ran out comfortable winners after a drab affair. We now lie only a point behind Limerick, and given the form we are in we still have a chance of the playoffs.   I hope  that City  if they cannot make it this year we can end the season on a high and hopefully take this good form into next season with some added confidance aswell.   To think after the way things were at pre season, it's fantastic to think that we are even in with a chance of the playoffs. Credit must go to FORAS and their Board of Managment who do some magnificent work putting loads of time in to ensure a stable and thriving Cork club in the LOI  .
If anything it keeps our season interesting and hopefully people will come out in numbers to Turners Cross, starting with Longford next week.
