Underage round up , 12th September

This week City's youth team played twice in the space of 3 days.  They first played down in St Colman's park against Cobh Ramblers on Wednesday last. It finished with City getting a 2-0 win, Ciaran Mc Carthy with a cracking volly and Jason Higgans with a well taken penalty gave City the 3 points.
Then out in Bishopstown on Saturday, City had to come from 2 goals down to get a 2-2 draw with College Corinthians.  Again Ciaran Mc Carthy and Jason Higgans were on the scoresheet for the Rebel Army.
Elsewhere the u17's today had a commanding 5-0 victory over Riverstown.
In the upcoming week, there is a quite week instore due to the Cork footballers participation in the All Ireland final.  The only action for the underage sides is for City's youth team as they take on Kilreen Celtic next Saturday in Bishopstown (3pm)  .
Finally,
The U20's lost 3-1 away to Mervue United on Sunday .   Willie Heffernan had given City the perfect start when he scored the opening goal after 7 mins, but City created very few chances after that .
Mervue broke with Mike Collins forcing his way between Jason Higgins and Eamon Fitzgerald before firing past Sean Barron to make it 1-1  .
City found themselves behing as the first half entered injury time with David Smyth’s deep cross finding Enda Curran who rose above the defence to head the ball beyond Barron’s reach.
With time almost up Barry McEntee sealed the victory when his 25 yard effort was touched onto the post by Barron but the ball bounced along the goal line and ended up in the back of the net to earn Mervue a measure of revenge for the 5-0 defeat they suffered in Bishopstown earlier this year.City remain on top of the Pool 4 table and with two matches remaining qualification for the knock-out phase is still in their own hands.
