Underage round up, 20th September

Yesterday afternoon, Cork City's u20 side  suffered their 2nd defeat of the season with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Salthill Devon in Drom.
Salthill opened the scoring after 36 mins when the ball fell to Cian Fadden at the back post and while his first effort was a complete mis-kick he was allowed the time to fire the ball into the back of the net.
City were very close to an equaliser after 60 mins after a corner kick fell to Ben Twomey and his volley smashed off the cross bar and appeared to cross the line before being scrambled clear  . With 15 mins left, Salthill doubled their lead thanks to  Salthill’s star player Daryl Horgan who picked his was through the City defence before crossing for Brian O’Grady who was allowed time to control and shot past Price in the City goal.
Wille Heffernan rifled home a shot to give City some late hope to salvage something from the game, but it was too late  as Salthill hung on for the 3 points.
With  just one more game remaining, City need to win in order to claim a place in the quarter finals.

That game takes place next Saturday against Tralee Dynamos in Bishopstown.

Eslewhere, City's youth team played  Kilreen Celtic in Bishopstown on Saturday, with City unfortunatly on the wrong  end of a 1-0 scoreline.   Kilreen were a very well organised and physical side and that proved the difference on the day. Des Mallon  from the u17's was given 45 mins for the youth side so fairplay to him for making the step up.   This Saturday coming, City make the trip to O'Sullivan Park to take on Castleview( 3 pm)
* There was no game for the u17's this week due to the Cork footballers playing the all ireland final(many congrats to them aswell for ending our 20 year wait for Sam)
Next up for the u17s is a game with Temple United in Temple Park on Sunday next( 3pm)
